New Delhi, Mar 30 (PTI) A committee is looking into ways of distributing water from the Krishna river to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the government said today.

Minister of State for Water Resources Sanjeev Kumar Balyan said a committee was set up on January 9 this year and it has three-month time to submit a report on how the water should be distributed.

The committee was set up after there was no agreement about water-sharing during a meeting of the Chief Ministers of the two states, he said in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour.

The central government has already set up the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

"KRMB is issuing water release orders from time to time based on adhoc arrangement as agreed by Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for sharing Krishna water till the final allocation is made by the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal-II," Balyan said.

KRMB has started the work of installation of telemetry system in Krishna Basin in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh at various places of inflows, outflows and withdrawal of water to bring the transparency, the Minister said.

He said the issues raised by the state governments are "resolved/being resolved" in terms of the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal award and other agreements made between the states by KRMB through its board and apex council meetings.

Amid concerns raised by some members including from Telangana, over sharing of Krishna water, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan in a lighter vein said, "don't fight over it too much", adding there should not be a situation like "Saraswati river which has vanished".
